About the District

The Galt Joint Union Elementary School District serves approximately 3,550 students in grades Preschool through 8th. The District operates seven school sites and employs approximately 550 staff members. The District is the largest employer in the city of Galt with a population of approximately 26,000. The ethnicity of our students is 63% Hispanic and 34% White, with 55% of our families qualifying for free or reduced meals.

As a District, we create learning experiences that support individual student strengths, talents and interests in the classroom and beyond. These learning experiences include social and emotional support for our students. Every K–8 school operates libraries as Bright Future Learning Centers (BFLCs) for learning, career education, research and enrichment. Every school supports a music program with choir and band options. All schools have an after school Expanded Learning Program open until 6:00 p.m.
A Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program is offered at preschool, transitional kindergarten and kindergarten at Valley Oaks Elementary School. Valley Oaks will continue to develop and extend the DLI program each year. The goal for the DLI program is for all students to become bilingual in English and Spanish.
All of our students are receiving lessons in A Bullying Prevention Program: Steps to Respect. Lessons teach empathy for children, positive social norms and specific socially responsive behaviors for children to use when they witness bullying. In addition, keeping a focus on positive youth development and opportunities to practice problem-solving and emotional management skills.

The District has exceptional learning partners including Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, California State University Sacramento, Stanford University, Cosumnes River Nature Preserve, WestEd, Sacramento County Office of Education, James B. McClatchy Foundation, The Nature Conservancy and Wilderness Inquiry.
