Become a Volunteer

The Galt Joint Union Elementary School District ("District") welcomes community members, parents, guardians, and other individuals who support student learning and school programs.  Student safety is the District's highest priority.  Individuals serving as District volunteers must comply with District policies, state law, and all applicable volunteer requirements before providing volunteer services.
 
VOLUNTEER DEFINITION
A volunteer is an unpaid individual that regularly assists under the direction and supervision of a District employee.  Examples of volunteer service include, but are not limited to:
  • Classroom assistance
  • Overnight field trip chaperones
  • BFLC/Library assistance
  • School event assistance
  • Athletic coaches
  • Chaperone Field Trips 
  • Club sponsors
  • After-school program support
  • Student interns
  • Other school-sponsored activities
 
VISITOR OR VOLUNTEER: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
The distinction between a visitor and a volunteer is based on the individual's level of involvement, frequency of participation, and interaction with students. A volunteer is on campus and around students more than (1) day per month or more than (10) times per school year. 
Visitors are someone who:
(BP 1250 / AR1250: Visitor/Outsiders) 
Volunteers are someone who:
(BP 1240 / AR 1240: Volunteer Assistance)
  • May attend school celebrations, assemblies, performances and parent groups held during the school day.
  • May assist activities under the immediate supervision of a school employee for (1) day per month or no more than (10) days in a school year. 
  • All visitors need to clear the Megan’s Law background check. 
  • Assists in the classroom or with other school activities under the immediate supervision of a school employee more than (1) day per month or more than (10) times per school year.
  • Volunteer as an athletic coach, club sponsor, or other recurring activity leader.
  • Fingerprinting and Mandated Reporter Training is required for volunteers who work with students outside immediate supervision of a school employee or serve as an overnight chaperone, as required by District policy and law.
 
If you meet the Visitor parameters listed above, you are not required to complete this volunteer form.  If you meet the Volunteer parameters listed above, complete the application below and attach any required documentation.  Volunteers may not begin service until all District approvals have been completed.
